Use Affirmations to overcome Limiting Beliefs

Just copying a set of affirmations that someone else has created and reciting them every day is unlikely to produce any meaningful results for you. The reason for this is that affirmations need to be personal to you. They need to help you to overcome your weaknesses so that you can make the changes that you want in your life.

In fact, the main reason that people fail with affirmations is because they did not create them in the right way. They did not put in the required time and effort to identify the affirmations that they really needed to help them to move in the right direction.

You cannot rely on affirmations created by others to change your life. What worked for them is unlikely to work for you as we are all different. In this article, we will show you what you need to do to identify your weaknesses and write affirmations that will help you to overcome them.

Identifying your Weaknesses

If someone asks you what your weaknesses are then you will probably have a hard time responding to this. Nobody likes to admit publicly what their weaknesses are. But we are not going to ask you to do this in public.

Find somewhere quiet where you will not be disturbed and take a pen and some paper with you. You are going to ask yourself some probing questions to identify your weaknesses. It is very likely that you will already know what some of your weaknesses are so start by writing these down.

You can then ask yourself these kinds of questions:

  • What things do you not like about yourself?
  • Why do you fail so often?
  • Why do you avoid things that are outside of your comfort zone?
  • What stops you from doing what you want to do?

You can probably think of similar questions. As you ask yourself each question you need to focus on it. It is also critical that you are honest with yourself. Nobody else has to know that you are doing this so there is no reason to lie to yourself. Write everything down that comes to mind as you ask yourself the questions.

Are there any Commonalities?

Once you have completed this exercise and have a list of weaknesses or things that you don’t like about yourself you then need to take a look at each one and see if there are any commonalities there.

It is likely that a single limiting belief that you hold will be responsible for a number of things that you don’t like. You need to do this so that you can identify the root causes of your weaknesses. Dig deep here as it is very important that you identify root causes.

Turn the Negatives into Positives

Once you have identified your limiting beliefs and weaknesses it is now time for you to turn these into positives for your affirmations. For example, if you identified a lack of confidence as a root cause then you can create a positive affirmation to address this.

This is the easiest part of the exercise. It will be easy for you to turn a negative into a positive. Just look for the opposites and use these in your affirmations. You can create really powerful affirmations that will really help you by using this method.
